Moving Away From Mohair
Moving Away From Mohair
I fully appreciate that the cost of materials, time and expertise in making our wonderful garments, but the final cost and particularly some of the postage and packing,is pricing myself out of purchasing any new additions. As i have a wonderful wife, who occasionally indulges me in my love of fluffy clothes,i have turned my attention to new, mass made eyelash knits. These are not a true replacement, but are cheaper and don't shed hairs the same and give me a similar experience.

I hear you. Mohair sweaters can be expensive to buy. But they do last a long time if well cared for, so it's not like it needs to be a frequent expense. I guess it depends on how much "abuse" your sweaters get. Mohair is a very tough fiber, if treated with respect and stored properly. I have mohairs that are over 10 years old and still good as new. But then I'm pretty careful not to get them gunked up and I make sure they are frequently aired outdoors and stored in a cool, dry location (my basement).
I expect synthetics would have a different life expectancy, but I don't have any experience in that. Synthetics just don't do it for me so I've never been there. Good luck in your decision!
