Jusy have a look at the unfortunate name of the co-author of this pattern book; I thought at first it was a typo. Poor woman.

The same slang term is current in the US, going back to around 1940, I think.

I can't imagine why an authoress wouldn't change her name. It's the easiest thing in the world. Retro Hollywood film star Cary Grant, for example, also from the UK, began life as Archibald Leach!

refering to Wikipedia the slang word is "twat" with one t ...

Anyhow, some nice patterns in this sellers auctions.
