If you want to have a really fuzzy and hairy sweater without losing too much hairs during the brushing, (or a mohair blanket), these are the good techniques:
---1) You must have a good water spray (the same as for garden) fill it with water.
---2) spray water in fine drops on all the sweater
---3) shake strongly the sweater. The water drop will go away and their weight will begin to let the hair start growing on the sweater surface.
---4) take a hair metallic brush the same type used to comb pets or cats (plastic are not so good as the spikes are too aggressive with mohair wool)
---5)brush your mohair sweater or blanket very hard. The surface water will have the same effect as oil on motor metallic surface : it will prevent the tearing off to much hair from the mohair surface.
---6) Shake strongly the sweaters to make raise the hairs you have raised from your brushing.
---7) repeat the whole process (water...brushing...shaking...) 5 to ten times... you will have an extraordinary hairy and fuzzy result with very few hairs remove from the sweater.
--- Never brush a mohair sweater dry as it will pull a big quantity of wool out of the sweater.
---The shaking is as important as the brushing to make the hairs rise.
B) If you want to have mohair exceptionnaly soft and fluffy use this method :
1) Use luckwarm water in a bath. Just enough to imerge your sweater or your mohair rug.
2) use normal hair shampoo you use for yourself and put it 3 times the quantity you use for your hair ( you must remember that mohair is not a whool but natural HAIR so you have to use shampoo and not washing powder)
3) mixed water and shampoo and put your mohair in it; Press it gently several times in the water and let it stay in it more than a 1/4 hour.
4) Rince it in cold water with the bath shower abundantly.
5) Let dry. When it is still wet, brushed it strongly with a metallic hairbrush. The water in the sweater will prevent the sweater to lose its hairs.
6) Shake it vigorously like a rug, the hairs will rise by centrifugal force.
6) when dry the mohair will be perfectly clean, souple, fuzzy and hairy like never before.
