Let's share casual mohair experiences
So, I've equipped myself and collaterally the family with various mohair, goat down, fur, alpaca, kid mohair items.
All are 100% wearable in public. (if we exclude the major part of the several hundreds of vintage mohairs), some are from ordinary brands like H&M, like the 80% long hair blend and the 31%M + 31W short hair, but very soft fine knitwear.
From here the cool part begins, a whole fashion line of custom high quality mohair sweaters, what I make for me, I make for the wife as well.
Since some time I got into blending different yarns, long hair alpaca with long hair mohair and some added kid mohair, that's great for ladies sweaters and men's knitted winter jacket. Before the recent developments I established relations with ladies crafters from Urupinsk - RF and obtained some ladies and men's goat down sweaters - now that's super cool thing. All are modestly hairy, even just fuzzy, serious and cool tight designs made with great care. Only one is from long hair king's goat down, but I took some measures to reduce it's hairiness and be able to wear it in ski resorts, works very well with Lacoste wool scarf and hat and is the same steel gray colour.
So, I've fought, learned, put other means and some creativity, not to mention the amounts of funding, to create the possibility and be able to wear mohair, goat down and fur in public and dress the wife in the same way. No one is confused, we get only compliments, wear those with friends and almost everywhere when at skiing resorts.
Hint: a really tightly knitted and very well designed knitted jacket from mohair with some add ons in the composition works the best. Big mohair sweaters, however finely and modestly brushed they might be can be awkward and can frustrate some people with their sheer magnificence and presence of excess comfort and luxury. LOL. - That doesn't bother me that much. But those are a tad impractical for indoors, because you have to go through the process of removing them and then putting on again and I like wearing those with nothing underneath. For outdoors, walks, or outdoor bars or restaurants they work great, although they are add a bit of clumsiness when eating.
The men's fox fur hat, when chosen properly is absolute hit. Time to first compliment is equal only to the big mohair turtleneck.
The men's knitted jacket, or actually winter coat can pass almost under radar with just some envious looks from stylish women, still gets compliments by both sexes, just not so much. And is the most comfortable and practical.
P.S. It's worth to look through fashion brands sites, because men's mohairs are everywhere now, ladies as well. Those almost make all the knitter's production useless, unless it's something really crafted, special, beautiful and wearable in public... to just put on something to do the wife/spouse/whatever, it's not worth itq those are everywhere.
So, do you wear mohair, firs, fuzzies, luxurious knitwear in public?
What happened? - I'll think of a writeup of a short story and examples in later post

great start to this
Re: Let's share casual mohair experiences
20 or even 30 years ago, being 10 or 15 liking your female relatives fuzzy sweaters and also your neighbours and teachers wearing mohair was something secret, intimate and induced nervousness and shame not to be cought. Let's not ignore the fact that those garments were manufacrured, marketed, distributed, sold, bought and ultimately worn to various occasions and that no one is blind or completely lacking imagination...
40 or 50 years ago women just wore those on dates and got used as a whole package. As by the way they do now again. Presently a nice hairy mohair sweater costs anywhere between 300-600 to 3.000 Euro. Thus those are a bit out of the plain sight of the average Joe.
Also nowadays there are like 78 genders.
We are still hiding and filling our social media profiles with mostly unacceptable stuff.
And there's a big market for unacceptably cheap and ugly knitwear. Which for one, turns off the wifes and for two, creates material for even more ugly and unacceptable stuff in the social media profiles.
Mohair is as durable as steel, by a couple of brand name men's sweaters and explode in ski resorts and bars. Wear mohair over shirt and make the herts of the sheilas go boom-boom. A couple of nice sweaters will get you through several winters of classy public posing. And rather might then not get you into some adventures. Ladies like bold and classy style and most are so obsessed with fashion that they get courageous at the sight of a sharp dressed man.

I haven't herad that Bottega is struggling with selling those so they are sold, bought and worn.
Same applies to all womens mohair models that are available now, all sold to someone. And the fact that they don't emerge in huge quantities on the secondary market means they get worn, probably with pleasure.
